Our students had a blast putting their imaginations to work as they engineered towers and bridges using everyday materials—pipe cleaners, cardboard squares, wooden blocks, and Velcro popsicle sticks!
Through hands-on building, they explored creativity, problem-solving, and teamwork while discovering that STEM is all about experimenting, revising, and trying again.
We love seeing our students dream big, build boldly, and learn through play!

Here’s what makes this moment special:
The Alabama Power Foundation’s Scholar Grants program supports elementary and middle-school teacher teams aiming to improve student achievement in ELA (English Language Arts) and math — including funding for professional development, instructional technology, and other resources.
Schools can apply for up to $5,000 in grant funds for these efforts.
The goal: empower teachers to collaborate, engage students, and raise proficiency and beyond in key academic areas.
What this means for our school:
Thanks to Jason’s leadership and the support of the Alabama Power Foundation, our school will be able to expand instructional resources, deepen professional learning for staff, and ultimately elevate student learning in math and ELA.
Please join us in celebrating Jason and the entire team for this fantastic achievement — and stay tuned for exciting new initiatives and enhancements coming to our classrooms!

We are excited to announce that Barbour County Elementary School is hosting a Food Drive to support the Retired Teachers Association of Barbour County! This is a wonderful opportunity to give back to those who have given so much to our schools and community.
Our goal is to collect 300–400 nonperishable food items to help retired educators and a local family in need this Thanksgiving. Items such as canned goods, boxed meals, soups, and pantry staples are greatly appreciated.
Students are encouraged to bring donations to their homeroom classrooms. Every contribution, big or small, makes a difference! Let’s come together as a school family to show our gratitude and make this season a little brighter for those who have paved the way for us.
Thank you for your support and generosity! 💛

In preparation for their next art project, Ms. Wilson’s 5th grade art students explored the world of turkey farms in 360 degree views! They learned that turkeys provide more than just meat — turkey byproducts are also used to create fertilizer that helps grow plants to feed other farm animals. Students also discussed how farmers grow healthy turkeys, maintain safety, and follow biosecurity measures to protect both animals and people.
What a great way to connect art, science, and agriculture!

Today, I had the pleasure of visiting Ms. Allen’s class, and I was blown away by her wonderful math lesson!
The objective was finding the unknown variable, and Ms. Allen skillfully modeled the concept using a tens frame. She then gave students think-time and invited individuals to share their reasoning.
To make learning meaningful, she connected the lesson to real-life examples, keeping every student engaged and encouraging rich student discourse throughout the activity.
👏🏽 Great job, Ms. Allen! Your dedication and creative teaching make learning come alive!

Kindergarten Learns About Axolotls during Library Time!
Our kindergarten students had an exciting time exploring the fascinating world of axolotls! Using Alabama Virtual Library and PebbleGo, they learned fun facts about these unique aquatic animals — like how they can regrow their body parts! Afterwards, our young scientists showed off their creativity by drawing their own axolotl illustrations.
