What a way to end the last day of our Read Across America Week. Our students were full of excitement as they opened their brand-new books from Books Are Fun! Smiles, laughter, and curiosity filled the room as each student discovered the stories waiting for them inside their free books.
We are incredibly grateful to everyone who donated and supported this effort to help put books into the hands of our students. Your generosity helps inspire a love of reading and learning that will last a lifetime.

We had an amazing PBIS Mardi Gras Honors Celebration! Our honor students enjoyed arts and crafts, fun games, colorful Mardi Gras beads, and of course, delicious King Cake and ice cream. It was a joyful celebration of their hard work and achievements. We are so proud of them all!

⨠Celebrating Black History at Barbour County Elementary! â¨
Last month, our students proudly celebrated Black History Month with a special program honoring culture, history, and community. We were honored to welcome guest speakers Brittany Grant, Tonya Porter, and Yashica Smith, who shared inspiring words with our students.
Our talented students shined throughout the program. The Kindergarten class performed the song âStand Up,â while First Grade sang âI Love Who I Am.â Students from other grade levels also participated by leading the Pledge, a Moment of Silence, and the Introduction of the Divine 9, highlighting the rich legacy of historically Black Greek-letter organizations.
The program also featured an exciting performance by a student dance team, and members of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. from Troy University energized the audience with a powerful step performance.
We are grateful to the families, staff, and program committee who came out to support and celebrate our students. It was a wonderful day of learning, pride, and community! đđ¤

Today our Jaguars dreamed big for the future during Oh, the Places You Will Go Day! Students dressed as the careers they hope to have one dayâdoctors, athletes, teachers, astronauts and so much more. Reading helps open doors to endless possibilities, and we love seeing our students imagine the amazing places their learning will take them!

Update for Community Leadership Meeting
BCES STEM Students Are Cracking the Code!
Our BCES STEM classes have been hard at work diving into coding activities! Students are learning how to think critically, solve problems, and create step-by-step instructions that bring their ideas to life.
Through hands-on challenges, they are building perseverance, creativity, and collaboration skills â all while having fun! Coding helps our students strengthen logical thinking and prepares them for a world where technology plays an important role in almost every career.
We are proud of our young innovators for staying focused, thinking creatively, and showing that learning can be both challenging and exciting!

Community Helpers in Action!
Barbour County Elementary School was excited to welcome members of the Barbour County Sheriff's Department as they visited with our students in grades Kâ3!
As part of their study on community helpers, students learned firsthand how deputies serve, protect, and support our community each day. They had the opportunity to ask questions, learn about safety, and better understand the important role law enforcement plays in keeping everyone safe.
We are thankful for the time the Sheriffâs Department took to invest in our students and help make learning real and meaningful. Experiences like this help our young learners connect classroom lessons to the world around them!

BCES students recently earned a special treat for consistently practicing our Social Contract and demonstrating positive classroom behavior. As a reward, they had the opportunity to meet Ms. Wilsonâs chickens right here at school!
Students were excited to observe the plump fowl up close and asked thoughtful questions about how they are cared for, what they eat, and how they help provide food. It was a fun, hands-on way to reinforce responsibility, respect, and curiosity.
We are so proud of our students for showing that great behavior leads to memorable learning experiences!

Jump Rope for Heart
Jump Rope for Heart was brought back to Barbour County School District not only in recognition of Heart Health Month (February), but also to encourage students to be more active. Being active decreases chances of obesity, heart disease, and other preventable illnesses. It was also an event to allow the students to show off their jump rope skills and have fun while being active.
Four students won prizes for jumping the longest.
